Where and how do I save my content on Dropbox?

Dropbox is a great place to safely share and store your content. Whether you’re using the desktop app, dropbox.com, or the mobile app, it's easy to save content in your Dropbox account.

Use Dropbox to save, organize, and update your content

Dropbox has the tools to help you organize and seamlessly update all your content.

How to save and sync files in Dropbox

You can easily save and sync your files to Dropbox using all your devices.

Watch this video to learn about uploading and downloading files.

Saving files on dropbox.com

One of the easiest ways to upload files to Dropbox is with dropbox.com.

Simply log in to dropbox.com, then drag and drop files from your computer. Or, if you prefer, you can select Upload or drop files to choose a file.

Note: There’s a 350 GB file size limit when uploading through dropbox.com. If you have a bigger file, use the Dropbox desktop app instead.

Saving files directly to the Dropbox desktop app

You can save files directly to the Dropbox folder in File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).

To do so, drag and drop files from other folders to the Dropbox desktop app or the Dropbox folder.

You can also use the Save as menu option found in most applications, or cut and paste. Files you save to the Dropbox desktop app or the Dropbox folder will automatically sync to all your devices, so you can access those files wherever you are.

Saving files on the Dropbox mobile app

Need to share those amazing cat photos? You can easily upload files, photos, and videos from your mobile device with the Dropbox mobile app.

To add files manually on your iOS device, open the Dropbox app, tap the ( + ) button, then click Upload photos or Create or upload file. To add files on an Android device, follow the same steps and then click Upload photos or videos or Create or upload file.

Note: You can also set photos and videos to upload automatically.

Private vs. shared files

Keep in mind that whatever method you use to upload files, any file you save to a shared folder (indicated by a folder with an icon of people on it) or team folder (indicated by a folder with a building icon on it) can be seen by everyone with access to that folder.
If you’re saving something private, be sure to save it in a folder only you can see (indicated by a folder without any icon on it).

Deleting files

The same is true for deleting files: any file you delete from a shared folder gets deleted for everyone else in that shared folder. And anything you delete from a team folder gets deleted for everyone else in the team folder.

If you accidentally delete something from a shared or team folder, no problem. With file recovery, you can simply restore that file back to the folder.

Working offline

Is your internet is down? Don’t worry, any edits you make to a file will automatically sync to Dropbox the next time you're back online. You can also make files or folders available for offline viewing on your mobile device. Dropbox lets you work anywhere, anytime, without missing a beat.

How do I know my content is in a place my team can use?

Team members can access any online content that has been shared with them. If you make changes to a file that you marked local while offline, it’ll sync when you’re back online.
